TIER ONE - pre-p.a.i.n.t. internship
(for FIRST TIME INTERNS)

PRE-P.A.I.N.T. INTERNSHIP -
Observe/Assist a Teacher

Location: Local School (Placement determined by P.A.I.N.T. Coordinator)
Dates: Flexible schedule during the school day/week
(20 hours total)
Estimated class size: 15-20 students

observE and assist a classroom teacher at a local school
(20 hours)($10/hour)

  • Get placed at a local school with a mentor teacher, and participate in classroom activities with students for 20 hours over the semester, as it works with your schedule.

  • Interns may complete up to TWO Tier-One Internships - within the same semester OR in two different semesters.

  • Interns may complete a Tier-One Internship in the same semester as a Tier-Two Internship.


TIER TWO p.a.i.n.t. internshipS

Intern is partnered with another pre-service teacher or mentor teacher to share teaching responsibilities. (40 hours)($12/hour)

  • Prerequisite: Must have completed or be completing a Tier One Internship in order to do a Tier Two Internship.

  • Exception: Students who have completed a 20-hour (minimum) practicum as part of their degree program may skip the Tier One Pre-P.A.I.N.T. Internship prerequisite.

MAKING STORIES COME ALIVE
(K-3) (Partnered internship)

Location: UW-Stout Library, 2nd Floor
Estimated class size: 10
Dates: Feb. 7 - May 9
THURSDAYS 5pm-7:30pm
(actual class runs 5:30-7:15pm)

Make stories come alive through dramatic play! Work with another intern to engage students in the creation and performance of their favorite stories or of their own original stories. Children explore storytelling and acting in a fun way- with costumes! Teach activities that will engage students in collaboration and creativity, using their body, face, voice.
Paid planning time included.

MURAL PAINTING
TEEN ROOM & PLAY ROOM

Bridge to Hope, Menomonie, WI
Dates: Feb-May, 2019
Flexible dates and times, arranged between intern and site supervisor
Estimated class size: 5

The Bridge to Hope supports victims who have been affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.
Interns will help design and paint two murals in the teen room and play room at the Bridge to Hope, involving families and children, when possible. Internship may be scheduled in accordance with intern’s schedule.

ART EXPLORATION
FOR ADULT INMATES (Partnered Internship)

Location: Dunn County Jail (2.6 miles from Stout - vehicle needed)
Dates: Feb. 4 - May 7
MON/TUE, 6-7:30pm
(No classes over spring break)
Estimated class size: 10

Plan and lead art lessons as a positive outlet to inmates. Inmates will explore visual arts media and processes to increase their artistic skills, express themselves creatively, and allow for personal growth and discovery.

UW-Stout Child and Family Study Center PRESCHOOL ASSISTANT
(For ECE students only) (Mentored Internship)

UW-Stout Child and Family Study Center
Locations: Infant-Toddler Lab (Heritage Hall, on campus) OR Preschool Lab (1 block from Heritage Hall)
Estimated Class size: 10-15
Dates: Feb.- May
FLEXIBLE DAYS/HOURS (schedule arranged with the CFSC Director to equal 40 hours over the course of the semester)

Interns at the Child and Family Study Center (CFSC) will have opportunities to engage with preschool children, using music, movement, and/or visual arts as they are integrated into their daily schedule. Assist the CFSC teachers to facilitate lessons and daily activities with children.

THRILL SEEKERS
ARTS AND CRAFTS FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES (Partnered mini-internship, appx. 15 hours)

Location: Leisure/Senior Center (2 blocks from Applied Arts)
Estimated class size: 20-30
Dates: One Thursday per Month (4 class meetings)
from 5:30-8pm

Teach holiday or seasonal art projects to adults with disabilities who have varied ability levels. Great small group and 1:1 opportunities with older students who are young at heart. Teach projects in simple steps, while participants explore a variety of creative art media,

“ANIME & OP ART”
K-8 P.A.I.N.T. SATURDAYS (Partnered Internship)

Location: UW-Stout Library
Estimated class size: 10-15
Dates: Feb. 2 - May 4, 2019
(No classes over spring break or Easter weekend)
Saturdays, noon-3pm
Session 1 (K-4) : 12:30-1:30pm
Session 2 (5-8): 1:45-2:45pm)

You and a partner will teach two 1-hour classes (similar project, different grade levels). Teach individual and collaborative art projects to explore techniques in drawing anime and optical illusions. Artistic media may include pen and ink, marker, watercolor, colored pencil, etc.
Paid planning time included.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB
Location: River Heights Elementary (1.2 miles from Stout - vehicle recommended)
Class size: 10
Dates: Feb. 5 - May 9
M/W 4:45-6:15pm OR TU/TH 4:45-6:15

Create delectable edibles by baking yummy treats and adding artistic flair! Integrate science, math, and literacy with culinary arts in projects that look so good you can eat them! Supplies and food provided.

Canvas painting classes for students and parents/grandparents/ adult family members. Intern (or Intern and a partner) independently teaches painting classes using step-by-step instruction, where children and parents each come away with a completed whimsical painting.

 

TIER THREE p.a.i.n.t. internshipS

Independent teaching internship (40 hours)($13/hour)

  • Prerequisite: Must have completed a Tier Two Internship.

  • Exception: Students in their junior or senior year of their degree program who have completed two course practicums (40 hour minimum).

(Solo Teaching)

Session 1 (4K & Kindergarten): 12:30-1:30pm
Session 2 (grades 1-3): 1:45-2:45pm)

Gain an entire drumming and music curriculum by “Rhythm Kids” online classes, and use their interactive videos and lessons to lead classroom activities designed especially for early elementary students. Explore music from around the world as children drum, sing, and move to the rhythm. Drums and sound equipment provided by A.I.M.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
ART CLUB
(Solo Planning/Teaching)

Lead an after-school club for middle school students, creating fun projects and improving skills in 2-D design, using basic art techniques and a variety of art media. Consider projects such as graffiti art, optical illustions, anime/manga drawing, and projects with positive messages. Create group projects or teach individual projects that enable students in grades 6-8 an opportunity to express themselves in creative and colorful ways!

From drawing and painting to crafty 3D creations, teach students grades K-5 a variety of materials, allowing them to showcase their artistic talents and interests. You will work with another intern to design and teach this class around your skills and develop a variety of different projects.
