TIER ONE
“pre-p.a.i.n.t.” CLASSROOM internship
(for FIRST-TIME INTERNS)

observE and assist a classroom teacher at a nearby school
(20 hours at $10/hour = $200)

  • Open to Stout education students of any experience level.

  • Spend time at a nearby school or UW-Stout’s lab school with a teacher in their classroom.

  • Observe and participate in classroom activities with students for 20 hours over the semester.

  • This experience is the pre-requisite for an “official PAINT internship (Tiers 2 and 3).

  • Interns may complete up to two Tier-One Internships within the same semester.

  • Interns may complete a Tier-One Internship in the same semester as a Tier-Two Internship.

School Classroom

(Open to ALL Education Majors)

Location: School classroom at a local or regional school district
Placement selected by P.A.I.N.T. Coordinator and intern
Dates: Flexible schedule during the school day/week
(20 hours total).

Spend time at a nearby school with a teacher in their classroom. Observe and participate in classroom activities with students for 20 hours over the semester, as it works with your college schedule.

UW-Stout Child & Family Study Center
(Open to Early Childhood Majors)

Locations: Campus Infant-Toddler Lab (Heritage Hall, on campus) OR Preschool Lab (1 block from Heritage Hall)
Estimated Class size: 10-15
Dates: Flexible days/hours during the school day/week
(20 hours minimum).

Spend time at UW-Stout’s lab school with a teacher in their classroom. Observe and participate in classroom activities with babies and/or young children for 20 or more hours over the semester, as it works with your college schedule.


TIER ONE
”PRE-P.A.I.N.T.” PROJECT internship

MENTORED internship project that focuses on TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES, ARTS INTEGRATION, OR MINDFULNESS
($10/hour for 20 or more hours)

  • Open to Stout education students of any and all experience levels.

  • Interns work with a mentor to collaborate on a large-scale project that relates to education, the arts, and/or mindfulness.

  • Interns may complete up to two Tier-One Internships within the same semester.

  • Interns may complete a Tier-One Internship in the same semester as a Tier-Two Internship.

Mindfulness Place


Location: UW-Stout, Heritage Hall (tentative)
Dates: Flexible days/hours (20 hours minimum)

2 interns will work with Ann Brand, AIM Program Specialist for Mindfulness, to create a contemplative space on campus. AIM offers a quiet location on campus dedicated to stress relief, personal reflection, mindfulness practice, visual arts creation, and/or rest/relaxation to escape the busy pace of the day. A space to cultivate resilience, creativity, energy, and inspiration. Activities for this PAINT internship include designing the physical space and its activities, creating pieces for the space, and marketing/promoting the use of the space across campus.

UW-Stout Library Mural Projects

UW-Stout Library Mural Project
Locations: 2nd Floor Library
Dates: Flexible days/hours (20 hours minimum)

2 interns will work with Dr. Tami Weiss and Tony Maas, AIM’s Director and Maker Space builder, to collaborate on a creative project that is the learning environment for our teacher education programs at UW-Stout. Projects may include a large fantasy mural for the dramatic play center; “Starry Stout” recreation of Starry Night with the UW-Stout skyline; and sculptural castles and trees, using wood and foam materials.

Local Museum Maker Space


Location: Dunn County Historical Society; 1820 Wakanda St NE
Menomonie
Dates: Saturdays (Sept. 25, Oct. 5, Nov. 2, Dec. 7) noon-5:00pm

Internship at the Dunn County Historical Society, assisting with community programming for the museum’s “Make It Saturdays” monthly events when families come and create together. Fulton's Workshop is a makerspace with interactives. Its tagline is: learn - marvel - make, as kids explore how things work and think through big ideas and problems. Interns gain ideas for S.T.E.A.M. lessons, while interacting with museum visitors.

SMART GIRLS ROCK!

Location: Menomonie Middle School
Dates: Flexible days/hours (20 hours minimum)
Must be able to work at the event on Tuesday, October 29th from 8:00am-10:00 am.

Work with Menomonie Middle School Math Instructor, Casey Yonash, to assist with and mentor the “Smart Girls Rock” event. “Smart Girls Rock” is a one day only STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) event that brings women from those careers into the middle school to expose the girls to options as women are typically under-represented in those fields. Assist Ms. Yonash with facilitation and planning of the event, and create a fun and interactive exhibit that showcases the career of a teacher!

INSIDE OUT at Stout

Location: UW-Stout, Heritage Hall (tentative)
Dates: Flexible days/hours (20 hours minimum)

Work with Art Education faculty, college administration, and the Exteriors Committee at UW-Stout to plan for spring 2020 outdoor installation pilot project celebrating teachers. Begin photographing teachers and collecting questionnaires. For self-motivated interns. Preference to individuals with experience in photography and graphic design skills, and excellent professional communication.

 

TIER TWO
partnered p.a.i.n.t. internship

Intern is partnered with another pre-service teacher or mentor teacher to share teaching responsibilities. (40 hours)($12/hour)

  • Prerequisite: Must have completed or be completing a “Pre-PAINT” Internship in order to do a Tier Two Internship.

  • Exception: Students who have completed a 20-hour (minimum) practicum as part of their degree program may skip the Tier One Pre-P.A.I.N.T. Internship prerequisite and apply for a Tier Two Internship.

OAKLAWN MURAL INSTALLATION
(Partnered Internship)

UW-Stout Library Mural Project
Locations: 2nd Floor Library
Dates: Flexible days/hours (20 hours minimum)

2 interns will work with Tami Weiss, AIM’s Director and muralist to collaborate on a creative project that is the learning environment for Oaklawn Elementary School’s Library. Work with small groups of teachers and students to engage the entire school in the making of this installation.

ART EXPLORATION
FOR ADULT INMATES
(Partnered Internship)

Location: Dunn County Jail
(2.6 miles from Stout - vehicle needed)
90-minute classes that meet twice per week (flexible days/times)
Estimated class size: 8-10

Plan and lead art lessons with inmates. Adult men or women will explore drawing and/or watercolor media to gain skills, express themselves, and allow for personal growth. Paid planning time included.

ARTS AND CRAFTS FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES
(Mini-internship)

Location: Leisure/Senior Center (2 blocks from Applied Arts)
Dates: One Thursday per month, 5:30-8pm

Teach holiday or seasonal art projects to adults with disabilities. Small group and 1:1 opportunities with older students who are young at heart. Excellent experience for Special Education majors and all education majors wanting a diverse teaching experience with adaptive art.

BRINGING STORIES TO LIFE

Young children (Preschool, Kindergarten)
Dates: Flexible days/hours (20 hours minimum)

Plan bi-weekly storytelling sessions for young children, held at the UW-Stout library. Work under the guidance of of Kate Kramschuster, Co-Director at the Library, and Allison Feller, Director of the Child and Family Study Center. Engage children in dramatic play through storytelling, using costumes, props, and puppetry! Develop amazing lessons that can be incorporated into your future teaching career!

DRUMMING AND DANCING

*Can be a PARTNERED (TIER 2) OR INDEPENDENT (TIER 3) INTERNSHIP (YOU CHOOSE)

Locations: UW-Stout Library, 2nd Floor
Grades 3-8
Flexible dates/times: Saturday mornings 9-11am
or Saturday afternoons 1-3pm
or Sunday afternoons 1-3pm
or Sunday evenings 6-8pm

Drums or balls provided (you choose!). Sound system with your choice of music and/or video provided. Paid planning time included.

MURAL PAINTING
TEEN ROOM & PLAY ROOM
(Partnered Internship)

Location: Bridge to Hope, Menomonie
Dates: Flexible days/hours (Appx. 5 hours per week, minimum 20 hours over the semester)
Estimated class size: 1-5

The Bridge to Hope supports victims and families that have been affected by domestic violence.
Help paint a mural in the teen room or play room at the center, working with children and family members as they are available.


TIER THREE p.a.i.n.t. internshipS

Independent teaching internship (40 hours at $14/hour = $560)

  • Prerequisite: Must have completed a Tier Two Internship.

  • Exception: UW-Stout education students in their 3rd or 4th year of their degree program who have completed at least two practicums as part of their university courses may apply for a Tier 3 internship.

New: “DRUMS ALIVE” with TEACHERS!

Location: Menomonie Elemetary School (site to be determined)
Dates/times: Flexible weekly classes (afternoons, evenings, or weekends
Class size: Up to 10 adults (teachers)

*Teach with a partner (TIER 2) or independently (TIER 3)

Interns lead a “Drums Alive” program, open to area teachers. Teachers have fun together, clacking drumsticks together above their heads and on individual “drums” as they jam to different songs. A great lesson-building project illustrating arts integration through a collaboration between music, dance, and physical education (and math, science, etc.). Interns guide teachers through simple movement and rhythm in choreographed routines (paid planning time included).

JUMPSTART K-5 AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Location: Leisure/Senior Center (2 blocks from Applied Arts)"
Class size: 10 students
Dates: Sept-Dec (May exceed 40 hours, if desired) M-Th 3:30-5:30pm

Internship as the arts and crafts coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department afterschool program called “Jumpstart”. Looks great on a resume. Plan and instruct arts and crafts lessons for students in grades K-5. All supplies included.
Paid planning time included.
Potential to be a two semester internship, if desired.

CANVAS CREATIONS
Parent/Child Painting Classes

Location: UW-Stout library (2nd floor)

(Two back-to-back 90-minute classes, teaching the same painting. Paid time for planning and preparation).

Estimated class size: 10-15

Parent/child canvas painting classes open to the public. Teach basic step-by-step canvas painting tutorials. All supplies included.

Fun with ART

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB (Grades 3-5)
Location: River Heights Elementary School (1 mile from Stout)
Estimated class size: 10 students
One day of the week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays) 4:30-6:30pm

Teach students in grades 3-5 fun and fun and eye-catching projects using visual arts. Intern chooses projects and media. All supplies included.
5 hours of paid planning time included.

*This may be adjusted to be a partnered (TIER 2) internship.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GRAFFITI ART

Location: Menomonie Middle School
Dates: Any day of the week (club meets weekly)
3:15pm-5:15pm
(minimum 20 hours per semester)

Lead the Middle School Art Club, mentored by Art Teacher Lori Brenner, to create individual and/or group projects, teaching the art of graffiti and/or projects that use words to send a positive message. Have fun exploring various media which may include colored pencils, chalk pastel, cray-pas, paint, or airbrush. Supplies included.
Paid planning time included.

Create delectable edibles by baking yummy creative treats! Teaching baking/cooking lessons and incorporate art projects, songs, children’s books, or storytelling for edible entertainment! Supplies and food provided.
