How have you grown as a teacher from this experience so far (skills, understanding, or knowledge gained) (lesson planning, classroom management, demonstrations, etc…)?
I have learned so much about working with 3 year olds from a developmental perspective. I love being able to provide them with new and exciting experiences every week. I have become more efficient in my lesson planning since I have a good understanding of what activities the students would be interested in.
What new understandings do you have about children/education/your role in the classroom?
This isn't a "new" understanding, because I know from my classes how important art is for young children, but I love being able to see the growth the children have had since I started my internship. Seeing how happy these children are when they get to express themselves creatively makes me happy.
What has made you happy about teaching this quarter?
I love facilitating the process of the students doing artwork. It is so fun to watch them get creative! I love listening to them talking to themselves and each other when they are working on their art projects.
What is something that you would like to work on improving by the end of the semester?
I would love to provide plenty more opportunities for students to use different materials where they get more confident doing things independently. For example, using glue and making shapes out of play dough. I think having opportunities to develop fine motor skills is important for this age group.
