Marissa Stoffel: Blog I

What is your teaching experience so far?

I have been in the Child and Family Study Center before through classes in my major, so I have taught a handful of lessons there already. I have also worked at a child care center in the past, so I have a lot of experience with children in general. Through the internship, I have done some observation and have already led one art lesson. I feel rather comfortable in the preschool, but very much look forward to learning more and growing more through the multiple lessons I will be doing.

What are you looking forward to about the class you will be teaching?

I am really looking forward to be in this classroom because I was with the same students last year for an ECE class, so I already know a little bit about them as children and the classroom expectations. I’m so excited to watch the students in the classroom learn and grow throughout the semester I will be in there. I’m also excited to incorporate more art lessons into their day, as well as get more practice with small groups of children. I can already tell that they love to create things and use their imagination, so giving them the opportunity to create is something I very much look forward to.

What do you hope to learn/gain from this experience?

I really hope to gain more confidence as a teacher through this experience, as well as work on my preparation skills. I think I already have a good amount of confidence in the classroom, but I can tell that I lack the amount to bring me to the place where I want to be. I hope that this experience allows me to gain the confidence I would like. I also hope that this experience improves my preparation skills. Having to have a lesson planned each week will definitely help me when it comes to preparing lesson efficiently and on time.
