Cierra Hurlbert: Blog I

What is your teaching experience so far?

Before coming to Stout, I worked at the Boys and Girls club of the Wausau Area for just over 2 years. I was hired as an art program assistant which meant I was mainly stationed in the art room. I created program plans of different art projects to run with the kids. The ages I worked with were between nine years old all the way to 17 years old. I helped teach the kids how to do different art projects step by step.

What are you looking forward to about the class you will be teaching?

I am looking forward to learning how to create lesson plans and how to fully teach a class. I want to be able to keep the attention of the kids and to make sure they still have fun while creating their art projects. I want to be confident in the way that I am teaching. I believe that being a part of the P.A.I.N.T. program will really help me get comfortable in a classroom setting as a teacher and not the student.

What do you hope to learn/gain from this experience?

I hope to gain experience with different age groups and to learn how to work with students as a whole but also individually. I want to be able to see the way different age groups work through problems. Teaching this class will really give me a good sense of the different stages of drawing with the different age groups. I also hope to gain a better sense of teaching language and how to properly use terminology during a lesson plan. I want to be able to incorporate different fun tidbits about different styles and historical paintings in a way that makes it fun.
